About Me…

Well, here I am, writing a post about me, I can never talk about myself so here goes.

My names Pamela, I’m 38 years old, mad about sport and fitness and I want to share with you my journey into the world of being a lecturer in sport at college. Along the way I’ll be sharing a bit about my fitness needs, sports coaching and anything else I can think of.

My love of sport, participating as part of a sports team and being active drive my passion in becoming a further education lecturer. Helping helping people to grow in confidence, learn new skills, and being a part of their progress are things that I find incredibly rewarding thus making my passion for sport stronger.

Ever since primary school, I was drawn to being a part of the sport activities that were available to me. I was an important member in our girl’s football team, where I played in the position of goalkeeper, it was in this team, I participated in a Soccer 7’s tournament in 1996, which we placed joint second with two other schools, this gave me a sense of achievement in the sport of football it is also the reason why I chose to explore other sporting opportunities thus giving me the chance to play netball for my school, in the team I played as the centre and was team captain. Playing netball, and having the opportunity to lead my team was invigorating and gave me confidence in myself to help, assist others. It was during this my teacher/coach approached me in helping her coach the team, having been given this opportunity to collaborate with her in working with my team boosted my knowledge of working with others, problem-solving, how to project my voice, and confidence into my team.

I have recently attended West Lothian College, where I studied HNC Coaching and Developing Sport. Whilst I was there I had to take a placement to help me complete my Sports Coaching PDA, during this time my placement fell through so I met with my lecturers and we organised for myself to coach in house at the college with the Level 6 Sports students, once this was completed my second placement against took place within the college this time it was with Primary Five children, during my placement I managed to work on projecting my voice to make myself heard clearly, and more experience in working with a child with additional needs, it was during this placement, I realised that I would like to help individuals in becoming a sports coach/teacher/lecturer as many of the children I worked with wanted to help me and take part in my coaching, my lecturer at this time also commented on how I worked and gave me advice on how to take myself further in this, giving me the confidence boost to continue in this and potential to become a college/university lecturer.

When I’m not studying, I work part time for Cineworld (yes free movies), and I volunteer with Active Schools Fife in sports coaching roles within schools in Fife, I am also a Unit Helper at my local Girl Guides unit.
